My trip Step – by – Step

Day 1:  Arrive Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable NP.

Hopefully, your flight is scheduled for an early (not past noon) landing in Kigali. Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a Home to Africa representative who will welcome you. Thereafter, you will be transferred to Cyanika Border Post where you will be handed over to your guide/driver for this safari. Your guide/driver will transfer you from the border to the accommodation in Bwindi. On arrival at the accommodation, you will do little but check in and then you will have your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:  Go gorilla trekking in Bwindi and later transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation plus sight-seeing.

After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular! The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain vary with the movements of these great primates. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savored.

Return to your lodge. Have your lunch and thereafter check out for a transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.

Day 3:  Exit Bunyonyi and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP.

Have a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation with spectacular view of the Bunyonyi little islands just right in front of you and thereafter set off for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP. Queen is understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. The park’s diverse ecosystem which include sprawling savannah, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds.

You will enter Queen through the Ishasha sector – famously known for its resident tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are really hard to spot (most especially when they’re down in the grassland looking for prey). Hoping you get the chance to spot them, the sight will be spectacular! Arrive and check into your accommodation for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 4:  Undertake morning game drive and later go boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.

Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive in the park during which you will see Lions, Elephants, Leopard (if you’re lucky), Cape bushbuck, Cape Buffalos, Defassa Waterbucks, Giant Forest Hogs, Uganda kob among others. Return to your accommodation and have your lunch.

In the afternoon you will go for a two-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which connects Lakes: George and Edward and you will surely be fascinated by the concentrations of giant hippos, elephants and crocodiles among others. You will also see many varieties of birds at the water shores. You will have dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 5:  Go for the explosion crater drive, the Katwe salt lake tour then later transfer to Kibale Forest NP.

Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for the explosion crater drive. You will enjoy the spectacular crater drive that runs on 27 km stretch which presents distant sights of the stunning crater lakes while on your way. There is plenty of wildlife to see along the drive, although commonest are sights of Buffaloes plus Elephants. Also, along this drive you will be rewarded with sights of the great Western Rift Valley plus its escarpments, Lake George, the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, the Kazinga Channel plus Lake Edward. You may also opt to visit the Katwe salt lake after the crater drive.

Lake Katwe in Queen Elizabeth National Park is a traditional salt mining lake formed through volcanic eruption about 10,000 years ago. A visit to this salt lake will give you the opportunity to interact with the local salt-miners and their experience of salt mining using traditional methods. Later, you will exit Queen and transfer to Kibale Forest NP for chimp trekking the next day.

Day 6:  Go chimp tracking Kibale Forest and later take the Bigodi Swamp walk

Be up early and have your breakfast. Thereafter proceed to the tracking point where you will receive some briefing on the dos and don’ts during chimp trekking. An experienced ranger will then take you chimp tracking and you will be marveled by the sights of primates in Kibale Forest. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour in their presence.

Return to your accommodation for lunch and later have the Bigodi swamp walk. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a fascinating area, located in Magombe swamp. This area is recognized for its extensive array of biodiversity among which are several primates species like: the baboon, black & white colobus monkey, grey cheeked mangabeys, vervet monkey and the L’Hoest monkey. The Bigodi is also a paradise for bird watchers. Actually skilled birders may spot up to fifty or so new species on a bird list. Among the major bird species within the sanctuary is the Great Blue Turaco.

Day 7:  Exit Kibale to catch your flight out in Entebbe Airport.

Have a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation and thereafter embark on a journey to Entebbe Airport to catch your flight out. We do recommend for a late afternoon/evening outbound flight schedule for this day (if flying out). We hope to see you (or any referral) when next, you visit and thanks for choosing Home to Africa!
