Your 3-Day Gorilla Trekking Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Entebbe (early), pick up and depart for Bwindi National Park.

We hope that your flight is for an early landing (not past 10:00am) in Uganda. Your safari will start from Entebbe International Airport where the assigned Professional Tour Driver-guide will receive you with a warm welcome, give you a little briefing and then begin the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is a big habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda harboring over 300 of them (which is almost half of the world’s gorilla population). The drive will take you southwest Uganda by road, cross the Equator mark then to Mbarara City for Lunch and through the hilly terrain of western Uganda into Bwindi. You will arrive and do little but just check in your accommodation, relax as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking experience the next day.

Accommodation: (Gorilla Mist Camp-Budget Level) | Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Transfer Time: Approx. 9 hours.

Day 2Gorilla trekking Bwindi and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation.

Have breakfast, pick up the lunch box and move to the rangers’ post. You will receive some briefing (from the Park Authority) on the dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking, including assigning participants to a group. The actual trek into the forest begins at 8am in the company of your ranger-guide(s) and other participants assigned. The high altitude here combined with steep, rugged (sometimes muddy) terrain makes gorilla trekking physically demanding but rewarding. One moment you’re descending, and the next, you are ascending to a higher elevation. The time taken (3-8 hours) vary with the movements of these great primates. Once you have located a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle but endangered giants is unforgettable. At the end of the trek, you will be awarded a certificate of completion that you can keep as a reminder of this lifetime experience. Return, board the car and embark on transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The lake is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.

Accommodation: (Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort-Budget Level) | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Transfer Time: Approx. 2-3 hours.

Day 3Depart Lake Bunyonyi and return to Entebbe Airport to catch flight.

You will have a relaxed breakfast with spectacular view of the Bunyonyi little islands just right in front of you. Thereafter, you will hit the road for the return to Entebbe (arriving in the late afternoon/evening) for your flight out (recommended for 18:00hrs or later). Thank you for travelling with Home to Africa!

Accommodation: Recommended on request | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Transfer Time: Approx. 8 hours.

Permits:
> Limited permit slots are made available per day per trekking sector and sold on a first come first serve basis by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. At times (most especially when decision to confirm delays to come through), it is possible to miss out because the slots have sold out. However, we always do our very best to ensure this important element of your tour is secured. Sometimes, this will involve tweaking the itinerary slightly to align it with the possible/available trekking date. At times, this simply means switching the sector without changing the date. In all efforts, we ensure the timeframe of the tour is not altered.
