My trip Step – by – Step

Day 1:  Arrive, tour the Entebbe Botanical Garden and overnight in the booked accommodation.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport you will be met by a Home to Africa Guide/drive who will welcome you to Uganda – the Pearl of Africa. Thereafter, you will be transferred to your booked accommodation. In case you have had an early landing in Uganda, you may opt to go out and tour the Entebbe Botanical Garden.

The Botanical Garden is one of the places around Entebbe where you can spot many species of birds. While here, some Guereza Colobus and vervet monkeys can be observed next to great Blue and Ross’ turacos, and Diederik Cuckoos, Woodland Kingfisher, Black and white casqued horn bill and splendid starling. It is also a place of tranquility and peace, a feast for the eyes and there is notable absence of people and you simply immerse in nature, the sounds of birds breaking the stillness of the moment

Day 2:  Transfer to Murchison Falls NP with detour rhino tracking in Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Your driver will pick you from the accommodation and you will head out for Murchison falls. The highlights of this park include; the roaring rapids of the Murchison, the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest National Park where you will have the chance of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, and elephants. Then surely you will be fascinated by the concentration of hippos and the Nile crocodiles here. For birders, Murchison Falls boasts 450 bird species including the elusive shoebill stork, dwarf king fisher, the white-thigh hornbill, and the Goliath heron among others.

En route, make a detour visit to Zziwa Rhino sanctuary. You will have at least one hour of rhino tracking while here. Another stop will be in Masindi in order to enjoy your lunch. Continue to the park and check into your accommodation to relax for the Evening.

Day 3:  Murchison game drive and afternoon boat trip to the base of the falls.

Have your breakfast, depart for an early morning game drive across the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest National Park, where you will have the opportunity of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, and elephants. For any birder among you, this area supports the secretary bird and the black chested snake eagle to name a few. Return to your accommodation for lunch.

After lunch you will head out for the launch/boat trip to the base of Murchison Falls where you will also be able to catch sight of more animals including Hippos and Crocodiles and several water birds. Continue with a hike (if you like) to the top of the falls. The hike may be a strenuous one but the thrill on reaching the top is breathtaking. Miss it only if you must. Return to your accommodation and have a relaxed evening.

Day 4:  Exit Murchison Falls and transfers to Kibale Forest National Park.

After breakfast at your accommodation, drive to the top of the falls (if you didn’t hike) where you will have spectacular view of the falls. Else, depart for Kibale Forest National Park right away after breakfast.

Kibale is popular for its primates like the chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, red cheeked monkeys and red tailed monkeys. On your chimpanzee trails, these are regularly seen swinging in the forest trees and others feeding on the wild fruits. You will reach and do little but check into your accommodation where you will have dinner and the overnight rest.

Day 5:  Chimp tracking Kibale and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Today you will experience some serious primate business! Kibale Forest National Park boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including the chimpanzees. Approximately 5,000 chimpanzees live in the wild in Uganda, which makes it a perfect place to spot them! An experienced ranger will take you chimp tracking in the morning.

The activity begins at 8.00am with a briefing regarding the rules of trekking the chimpanzees after which you set off to search for them in the forest. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour with them. You will return to the lodge for lunch after which you will head out for Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will arrive in the evening and overnight at your booked accommodation.

Day 6:  Queen’s morning game drive and afternoon boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.

On this day, you will have a game drive and launch trip (boat trip) on the Kazinga Channel. Early in the morning, you will go out for a game drive through the park, with magnificent views of the plains, valleys, terraced hills and abundance of wild animals like reedbuck, bushbuck, kob, warthogs, elephants, lions, buffaloes and so much more. Have a break and relax as you eat lunch served at the lodge.

The afternoon adventure entails a launch trip (boat trip) on the Kazinga Channel, a water stream joining Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel attracts a large school of hippos and Nile crocodiles, besides the variety of birds that flock the reed shores like the pelicans, kingfishers, saddle billed stork and sometimes the crowned cranes. Return to your accommodation in time for your dinner.

Day 8:  Gorilla trekking Bwindi and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation, sightseeing.

After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular! The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain vary with the movements of these great primates. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savored.

Return to your lodge. Have your lunch and thereafter check out for a transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.

Day 9:  Transfer to Lake Mburo NP (and undertake a park walk or a boat ride on the lake).

Have a relaxed breakfast at the accommodation with the spectacular view of the Bunyonyi little islands just right in front of you and thereafter set off to Lake Mburo National Park. Drive past the intensely terraced Kigezi hill slopes and finally into Mburo NP.

Arrive in the park in the early afternoon for a boat ride on the lake or bush/park walk depending on your interest. On the bush/park walk, there are different animals to see such as the eland, zebras, buffalos, sitatunga and other mammals. The boat ride on the lake is good for birders with several birds like African Harrier Hawk, yellow-backed, cormorant fish eagles, spectacled weavers, and heron to be seen. The shores of the lake also boast a good number of crocodiles and hippos. Later, relax at your accommodation where you will spend the night.

Day 10:  Depart Mburo for Entebbe Airport to catch the flight out.

Depending on your interest and flight time, you may do a brief bonus game drive before exiting Mburo or else have your breakfast, check out and embark on your return journey to Entebbe Airport for your outbound flight. Remember to make a stop at the Uganda Equator line mark for some memorable photos while on your safari in the Pearl of Africa. Thereafter, proceed to Entebbe Airport where your driver/guide will gladly drop you off. We hope to see you (or any referral) when next, you visit and thanks for choosing Home to Africa!
