7-Day Wildlife Sighting Trip Including Chimp, Gorilla Trekking
7 days Itinerary
1:Arrive Entebbe Airport (early), pick up and transfer to Lake Mburo NP.
Hopefully, your flight is scheduled for an early (not past 14:00) landing in Entebbe. Your safari will start from the Entebbe International Airport where you will be received by the assigned driver/guide and depart to Lake Mburo NP via the Equator line mark, arriving late afternoon (evening) for dinner and overnight stay at the booked accommodation. OPTIONAL: In case you are interested, you may go out for the breathtaking Mburo night game drive (at an extra cost on the ground). During the night game drive, expect to sight nocturnal creatures including snakes, hyena, owls and the elusive leopard (on a lucky day) among others.
2:Mburo morning game drive and afternoon transfer to Bwindi National Park.
Enjoy your breakfast as early as possible then proceed for the game drive. On the game drive, expect to see the gigantic eland antelopes, zebras, impalas, giraffe and cape buffalos among others. Thereafter, return to the accommodation for some rest time and lunch before exiting for Bwindi Impenetrable NP. Bwindi is a big habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda (harboring over 300 mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population), including several habituated groups, which can be trekked. With a strenuous day ahead, you will do less on arrival but just check into your accommodation, relax as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking experience the next morning.
3:Gorilla trekking Bwindi Forest and transfer to Ishasha (South Queen Elizabeth NP).
Have breakfast and move to the rangers’ post. You will receive some briefing (from a ranger guide) on the dos and don’ts during trekking. Thereafter, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular! The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain vary with the movements of these great primates. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle but endangered giants is unforgettable. Return to the lodge for a short rest time and lunch and then transfer to Ishasha (South Queen Elizabeth NP) for an overnight.
Accommodation: At the River Ishasha Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Drive Time: 2-3 hours.
4:Game viewing Ishasha in search of tree-climbing lions and proceed (North Queen).
Have breakfast then set off for a breathtaking game viewing of Ishasha sector – famously known for its resident tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are really hard to spot (most especially when they’re down in the grassland looking for prey). Hoping you get the chance to spot them, the sight will be spectacular! You will also be able to see other wildlife such as the Uganda kob, Cape buffalo, elephant and warthog that have settled in this area. Thereafter, head to the accommodation (North) Queen Elizabeth NP for relaxation, dinner and later overnight.
5:Undertake morning game drive and go on a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.
Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive to the Kasenyi plains and be on the look for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants plus the big cats: lions, leopard (but very hard to spot) among others. Return to the accommodation for some rest time and lunch.
After lunch, you will go for a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. During the trip, the sight of wildlife including giant hippos, elephants and crocodiles among others will fascinate you. You will also see many varieties of birds at the water shores. You will have dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
6:Drive to Kibale Forest NP, relax and proceed for (the afternoon) chimp tracking.
Have breakfast and then drive off to Kibale Forest National Park. Kibale Forest is renowned for its primates like the chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L'Hoest's monkey, Uganda mangabey (Lophocebus ugandae). On your chimpanzee trails, these can be seen swinging in the forest trees and others feeding on the wild fruits. You will reach Kibale in time to rest, have lunch and then go out for the afternoon chimp tracking.
7:Explore the Kibale crater lakes and transfer to Entebbe to catch flight back home.
Enjoy your breakfast as early as possible then proceed to explore the Kibale crater lakes, crowned with a hike to the “top of the world”. You will enjoy the beauty of the numerous small lakes, surrounded by gentle hills, and the stunning views. Alternatively, you may proceed for the Bigodi swamp excursion. Thereafter, return to the accommodation for checkout and then depart to Entebbe Airport to catch flight out (recommended for 17:00 onward). We hope to see you (or any referral) when next, you visit and thanks for choosing Home to Africa!
